The Twin Oaks Tofu Internship Program provides a unique opportunity to acquire useful and interesting work experience in a novel communal setting. A participant in this internship would work alongside of management on many possible projects, such as (but not limited to):

  • Research, development, and execution of new equipment and production techniques
  • Record keeping systems for the tracking of production, maintenance, cleaning, etc.
  • Preparing for new state & federal health code regulations.
  • Annual Organic certification.
  • The collection of data on competitor's products.
  • Social media content.
  • Graphic design.
  • Branding and marketing.

In addition to these projects, those participating in the internship will also assist with work in the production room, attend management and expansion planning meetings, and occasionally assist with plant sanitation.

Interns will have a work expectation of 42 hours per week.  A Tofu intern would spend at least 28 hours per week working in the tofu business while spending the rest of their work time contributing to domestic chores (cooking community meals, gardening, kitchen cleaning, etc). During their time in the tofu business Interns would work 2-4 weekly shifts in the production room, attend management meetings, expansion planning sessions, assist with projects related to our plant expansion, and occasionally help with plant sanitation.

No skills are required to participate in this program. However, applicants who are self-motivated, goal driven, and eager to learn will have the best experience. Students who are currently studying engineering, business, and the science are encouraged to apply. We are also seeking interns who have work experience in various trades (plumbing, electric, carpentry, etc), and those who have previous work experience working in a factory setting (especially in food processing facilities).

Internships can last from 2 months up to 1 year. Accepted applicants can start any time of the year. Interns will receive room and board during their stay. Those who intend to stay for a duration of 4 months or longer will receive a modest monthly stipend.
